Gothia Cup Day 1 7/13

After a bit of an uncertain start, and down a goal, the 00/01 Eclipse team came on strong to win game 1 against Swedish side Toreboda by a score of 5-2. As confidence grew throughout the match, we maintained more and more possession and sharp ball movement turned into a dominant offensive performance. Goals were scored by Carson Jones, Styler Chillson (3), and Darby Bevis. The team finished with 3 points and a +3 goal differential after day 1. Later, the 98 Eclipse kicked off the Tipselit trophy campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Swedish side Djurgardens. The game was physical and fast paced, but the team’s will to win lead to a one-sided second half in a match that easily could have ended 5-0. Goals were scored by Kate Swartwout, Alexis Lynch and Cassidy Wheaton, two of which came off of corner kicks.

After the games, the girls dressed up USA attire and headed over the the arena for the Gothia Cup opening ceremony..Over 50,000 People attended the spectacular ceremony, which has the feel of the opening ceremony of an olympic games. Followed by a great show of fireworks..We were very surprised to find out that our seats were field level!!! The music was great and it was exciting to watch them introduce each country participating in the tournament. The celebration ended with an fantastic fireworks show.
